Learn in this webinar about microbiology careers and how you (or your students) can work toward getting into a career in this STEM field.
Is biology your passion, and you want to pursue a career in this STEM field?
Would you like to have the chance to hear from a biologist about what it’s like to walk the path to becoming a microbiologist?
Or maybe you’re an educator and you’d like to have a scientist chat with your class about microbiology careers.
Being a microbiologist is an incredibly fulfilling career, but there are tons of career options in this field. So, it might feel a little overwhelming trying to figure out what all of these different jobs are. And even before that, what’s the best way to work toward one of these careers?
I am a scientist who has worked in several different microbiology jobs. Let me share with you some of the incredible potential in this STEM field.
For instance, did you know that graduate school at the PhD level in microbiology is free in the US!? Yes!
I created this webinar to share with you the advice I wish someone had given me as I was working toward a career in microbiology. And I’ll help you discover the steps you can take to work toward your goal.
In case we haven’t met yet:
I’m Dr. Justine Dees! I have a PhD in microbiology and have worked in several different jobs in microbiology (microbiology laboratory technician at a medical supply manufacturer, and microbiology laboratory instructor and laboratory manager at a local college), and gone through research experiences at different levels (undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral research). With these different career shifts and research opportunities behind me, I now want to help you kickstart your microbiology career.
The webinar will give you a glimpse into what it’s like to be a microbiologist in a variety of careers. Hopefully, this will help you discover if microbiology is your future career and how to achieve it.
Here’s what you’ll learn in this webinar:
- What is a microbiologist?
- What do microbiologists do? What are some of the career options?
- The steps to take to become a microbiologist
- What it’s like to be a microbiologist with a bachelor’s degree
- What it’s like to be a microbiologist with a PhD
- The key to getting ahead in working toward a microbiology career
- Other microbiology careers that you might not have imagined
From this webinar, you will discover STEM careers you may have never considered, find out what real-life microbiologists do, dream up a future career as a microbiologist, and learn steps that will lead to your success.
Here’s how it will work:
- You will receive a pre-recorded, on-demand webinar immediately after registering.
- When you register for the webinar, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to the presentation and other resources. The presentation is on-demand, so you can watch it at a time that is convenient for you. And if you are an educator, you’ll be able to watch it again and again with your future classes.
This webinar will help you or your students see biology careers from a different angle — from someone who’s worked in a variety of jobs in the field at the bachelor’s to PhD level — so you’ll get a wide view of what being a microbiologist looks like.
It might be difficult to schedule an interview with a scientist to visit your class. But there is huge value in having someone share their career experiences. I’ve talked to students about my career and found that they learned a ton from our chats and hearing my stories. So, this webinar will allow your students to meet a scientist in a simplified way.
Who’s this for?
- This webinar is for high school and college-level students who want to meet a microbiologist and learn about microbiology as a career option
- This webinar is also for science teachers who want to introduce their students to a microbiologist and teach them about potential STEM careers
